1966 A Millennium of Christianity in Poland, Polish Renaissance in Texas
With Poland still under communist rule in 1966, many nations, especially the United States, focused their attention on Poland’s millennium of Christianity, a heritage dating to 966, the year Poland embraced Christianity with the marriage of Prince Mieszko and Princess Dobrawa.
On May 3, 1966, President Lyndon Johnson invited many famous Polish Americans to the White House where he was presented with a mosaic of Our Lady of Częstochowa. President Johnson spoke about the importance of this religious icon to the Polish people and presented the beautiful mosaic of Our Lady of Częstochowato the historic Immaculate Conception Church in Panna Maria.
