1974 Reinterment of Father Moczygemba at Panna Maria
Fathers John Yanta and Bernard Goebel, the Polish-born pastor of Panna Maria’s Immaculate Conception Church, both co-founders of PAPA, campaigned vigorously to honor Father Leopold Moczygemba, who was buried in Michigan in 1891, by bringing his remains home to Texas. On October 13, 1974, the centennial of the Archdiocese of San Antonio, Father Moczygemba’s remains were reinterred in Panna Maria, under the same oak where he had offered a Mass of Thanksgiving on Christmas Eve in 1854.
