Father Peter Kolton
Reverend Peter Kolton marked the 1966 Polish millennium by creating a shrine in San Antonio for Our Lady of Częstochowa and, in 1970, invited Polish nuns known as the Seraphic Sisters (the Daughters of Our Lady of Sorrows) to care for the shrine. On September 10, 1970, Reverend Kolton recruited fellow clerics Fathers John Yanta and Bernard Goebel, the Polish-born pastor of Panna Maria’s Immaculate Conception Church,to help form the Polish American Priests Association (PAPA). Originally, membership was limited to priests in Texas, but PAPA became a national organization in 1990.
